About Us

Based in the Pacific Northwest, MSHA University provides training, compliance, and safety information that helps mine operators and mining contractors navigate the complicated world of federal regulations and training requirements.
Our goal is to be a trusted resource that helps improve safety and lower costs for the U.S. mining industry.

“We provide quality resources that help mine operators and mining contractors improve safety and lower costs.”

The articles, downloads, and training provided through MSHA University are developed from years of experience researching federal regulations, writing eLearning content, interviewing mining professionals, and consulting with MSHA personnel.

We are a division of a private company, not affiliated with MSHA.gov or the U.S. Department of Labor’s Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA).

Our Story

Founded by Bjorn Ansbro, MSHA University grew from the need in the mining industry for accurate, easy-to-understand guidance on complicated federal training regulations.

In 2008 while working for an eLearning company, Bjorn joined a team writing an 8-hour computer-based course for MSHA Part 46 new miner training. At the time, there were disparate training videos on the market for miners, but no online providers of a comprehensive surface miner training course with compliant documentation. Through many months of research, trips to mine sites, and discussions with MSHA personnel and industry experts, a groundbreaking eLearning evolved that would become the premier Part 46 training course for U.S. surface miners and mining contractors.

In 2015, Bjorn rewrote and updated the entire course set, helping build it into a full 24 hours of Part 46 eLearning content for new miners.

Now, after years of writing eLearning for the mining industry and consulting with countless mine operators and mining contractors on how to properly train their teams and maintain compliant documentation, Bjorn works toward making MSHA University a platform for quality training and compliance resources.
